Marcos – our principal guide

Marcos Méndez Sibaja is from Guacimal, just 10 miles outside of Monteverde.  A tried and true naturalist guide, Marcos brings heart and soul into your guided tour in Monteverde.  He also loves to get off the beaten track.  Marcos is a certified naturalist guide through the ICT (Instituto Costarricense de Turismo), or the Costa Rican Tourism Institute.

From an early age, Marcos set his sights on a world bigger than his cattle ranching upbringing.  He learned English in Alberta, Canada at 19.  At age 20, he dove into training as a naturalist guide at Sky Adventures Monteverde.  He grew with the company, perfected his English, increased his knowledge of flora and fauna, and even trained other budding guides.  Along the way, Marcos developed a deep passion for all things nature and conservation.  As a freelance guide, Marcos also worked at Selvatura Park and Monteverde Lodge & Gardens.  In the US, Marcos worked for four years at the Boulder Marriott.

Currently, Marcos guides individuals and families that have been referred to him, clients who find us directly online looking for high quality private tours, and clients from travel agencies.  When he is not guiding, Marcos focuses on developing his family farm into a more environmentally sustainable operation.  He also feels blessed and privileged, along with his wife, Susu, to raise two wonderful daughters.

Along with living in Canada, Marcos has lived in the United States, is a dual US and Costa Rican citizen, and has traveled to over 30 countries.  He loves to share his passion for natural history.  You can also ask him about Costa Rican history, politics, football (soccer), and much more.

My goal is for every single guest to enjoy the beautiful and historically rich landscape of Costa Rica.
