Natural History Walk

Overview

 Overview

A Natural History Walk is one of the most rewarding and iconic ways to experience Monteverde’s cloud forest. Long before adrenaline-filled activities like ziplining became popular, guided nature walks were — and still are — the best way to connect with the forest, learn about Costa Rica’s incredible biodiversity, and walk away with a deeper understanding of conservation and ecology.

Led by one of our passionate, experienced, and well-read naturalist guides, this ~3-hour walk brings the forest to life. Along well-maintained trails in reserves like the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve or Curi Cancha, you’ll explore native plants, birdlife, and other forest inhabitants you might otherwise miss. Guides also share insights into the local culture, environmental efforts, and Monteverde’s unique role in Costa Rican history.

Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a seasoned traveler, a guided cloud forest walk offers the perfect balance of education, nature immersion, and quiet adventure.

Also referred to as a cloud forest walk, guided tour, or nature walk, this is a must-do Monteverde experience.

From the first phone call to arrange a tour, right to the end of our second walk, dealing with Pasión Costa Rica was a wonderful and personalized experience. We travelled as a family of 8 (7 to 79 years old) and Marcos made it interesting and engaging for every single one of us. The company name sits very well with Marcos who is clearly passionate about what he does and makes this experience so very different to some of the other tours in the area. We would definitely book again when back in Monteverde.

We have done two hikes with Marcos during our time in Costa Rica and both tours were wonderful experiences. The second one, a day long tour to the San Gerardo Biological station was our absolute highlight during all our stay in Costa Rica. Marcos knows the rainforest like the back of his hand, birds are his big passion (and soon became ours), we saw tons of wildlife, waterfalls, fascinating plants. The hike was strenuous but manageable with the right equipment (proper shoes, a rainjacket etc..). We can not thank Marcos, Susu and their family enough for this amazing experienceIf you visit Monteverde, do this tour! Thank you and we wish you all the best.

We spent a totally enjoyable 4 hours with Marcos as our knowledgeable and personable guide through the beautiful Curicancha Reserve on Feb. 22, 2020. We were a mixed group of teens and 62 year olds and he totally held our interest! His passion for the vast number of birds was remarkable and he REALLY knew his stuff! He assisted us in getting some great pictures!
